Burgess, 33, of Providence, last week for allegedly running a prostitution parlor out of 58 Main St.
The building at 58 Main St. Burgess, 33, of Providence, was sentenced last week for allegedly propositioning an undercover police officer for sex at The Blissful Oak massage parlor, 58 Main St. East Greenwich Police said they received four anonymous complaints over the last several weeks regarding prostitution taking place inside 58 Main St. One tipster told police his girlfriend had applied for a job and was told she could make more money offering sex to customers after performing massages. Police began surveillance of the building in late March and witnessed several men arriving in vehicles with Massachusetts plates and spending close to an hour inside the building.
Detectives noted the men did not appear to be customers of a bakery and martial arts studio located in the same building.
One of the detectives received a massage from a woman — later identified as Tiffany M. Burgess, 33, 31 Clym St. The other detective was not propositioned. Shortly after the two detectives informed East Greenwich Police of what had transpired, officers knocked on the door of the business and identified themselves as police.
According to police reports, Burgess jumped from the top floor of the building in an attempt to escape, but injured her leg. The other masseuse who was present — a year-old East Providence woman — climbed to the roof, jumped to the roof of an adjacent building and climbed down a fire escape.
She later returned to the scene in an attempt to retrieve her cell phone from Burgess and was stopped by police. She has not been charged with any crime.
Burgess initially gave police a fake name when questioned. She was transported to Kent Hospital in Warwick for medical treatment for a possibly broken ankle or leg. Burgess is scheduled to appear Friday in Third Division District Court to enter a plea to charges of prostitution and obstructing a police officer in the execution of duty.
Employees at neighboring businesses of The Blissful Oak who spoke to the Independent, but who declined to go on the record, said they had not seen any unusual activity and were shocked to learn of the arrest. The registered agent of the company is Gina Ruggieri, of 85 Cornell St. The manager of that company is listed as Dale J. Dejoy, of 11 Fox Court, Wakefield.
A voice mail message left at the listed for The Blissful Oak on Back. North Kingstown School Committee officials found themselves in the middle of a debate over curriculum this week as members of the public sparred Tuesday night over the topics of sexuality and gender identity and how appropriate it is for those subjects to be explored by local students.
The memoir, about gender identity, includes images and discussion of sexual acts.
